1000 Subscribers. What Next?

The night of July 6th 2021 will always be special. I finally hit 1000 subscribers on YouTube!.

Here are some quick stats from the channel.

I've never really had a big viral video, it's been slow and consistent rather than explosive and fast.

My first video on YouTube actually dates back to 2013, an unboxing of a Digital Photo Frame. It had actually gotten quite a lot of traction but I ended up deleting the video over some bad comments. I wish I hadn't deleted the video. Going back and looking at things I've made gives me a lot of joy and the will to keep going.

My biggest inspiration to come back to making YouTube videos are two people I've been watching for 8+ years.  Linus from LinusTechTips and Derek from Veritasium. I've seen Linus evolve from his days working at a computer store to running a YouTube media empire. Derek has been exceptional at telling stories and instilling scientific curiosity.

Starting in 2016 I have made 42 videos until now on the current channel. The 1000 subscribers mark is a special milestone because it is the hardest one to reach in a content creator's journey. It's extra challenging when the content is niche. Most of the channels which find early success tend to be in the entertainment space or produce exceptional and unique content.

I started making videos with no notion of what to expect. I just wanted to show off the cool stuff I had made. Yes, the whole "making money  🤑 from YouTube" did play a part in the beginning. You know, when one dreams about things before actually putting in the work. Over time it has grown into a form of creative expression and a hobby that keeps me occupied and makes me happy. I do hope to make some money from YouTube at some point.

What next?

Hitting this milestone is akin to reaching the base camp of a huge mountain. The actual climb starts now. This is where more hard work needs to be put in, nurture the channel and find my niche. My current niche seems to be "DIY and Maker" content. But, I am still trying to find my niche and a style that works well for me.

As I make progress with my storytelling skills, editing skills, being more comfortable and natural on camera, I will start making more diverse content and see where things go.

Right now, YouTube is a 10-year plan. As long as I have ideas for new and interesting videos. I'll keep making them.

My friends and family have definitely played a big part. Constant encouragement throughout this time. Lots of love ❤ to every one of you. Thank you for all the support over these years. All the likes, comments, memes and roasts. Each one of them pours into my cauldron of encouragement.
